What will you gain from the fellowship program?
- A thorough knowledge of the philosophy of a comprehensive arts education.
- The ability to create exemplary curriculum materials in both electronic and print formats.
- An understanding of opportunities provided by technology in the development and delivery of instructional materials, staff development, and advocacy efforts.
- An understanding of how to organize and conduct meaningful staff development in comprehensive arts education for school administrators, art specialist teachers, classroom teachers, and personnel in arts organizations.
- The advocacy skills needed to initiate and sustain successful arts programs.
- An understanding of how to organize consortium groups of arts organizations, school districts, and universities to work together.
Who may apply?
- Individuals with a commitment to developing their leadership skills for use in arts organizations.
- Individuals with a commitment to a comprehensive approach to teaching the arts as a part of the general education of every student as evidenced in previous involvement in arts education and/or a written statement of career goals.
- Individuals with a commitment to build collaborations between K-12 schools, colleges and universities, and organizations devoted to the arts as evidenced in previous experience and/or a written statement of career goals.
- Individuals with a commitment to work extensively toward professional development for teachers and toward implementation of a comprehensive approach to arts education.
- Individuals with a commitment to explore the use of technology in the development of educational materials and the delivery of instruction.
- Individuals with a commitment to develop advocacy and political skills as they relate to the arts.
- Individuals with outstanding academic and/or professional qualifications as evidenced in professional achievements, transcripts of academic records, and letters of recommendation from academic or professional colleagues.
- Individuals with a commitment to expand their knowledge through graduate course work in the arts at the University of North Texas that provides in-depth experiences in comprehensive arts education, leadership, advocacy and political action in the arts, and in technology training.
- Individuals with an interest in interdisciplinary work in the arts.
- Individuals with a commitment to work full-time in an arts leadership position for a minimum of two years following completion of the fellowship.
What are the eligibility requirements?
- Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree in visual arts or music from an accredited institution with some preparation or experience in arts education.
- Candidates must meet all requirements for admission to the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies and the College of Visual Arts and Design or the College of Music at the University of North Texas .
- Prospective Fellows must be accepted into both the Graduate School and a graduate program in the Division of Art Education and Art History in the College of Visual Arts and Designor a graduate program in the College of Music prior to beginning the fellowship.
- Fellows must be able to devote their full time to the fellowship. They may not hold other employment while receiving the fellowship; any exceptions must be approved in advance.
- Fellows must enroll for a minimum of 12 hours of prescribed graduate level courses each semester (Fall and Spring) and participate in an approved ten-week internship during the Summer.
- Basic computer knowledge is highly desirable.
- The program does not guarantee a graduate degree from the University of North Texas , but graduate hours accumulated over the 12 months may be applied toward a master's or doctoral degree as described in the University catalog, provided admission to the graduate program is obtained prior to beginning the fellowship.

A complete application for a fellowship requires:
- A completed application form (may be obtained on line or by contacting NTIEVA).
- A curriculum vitae (limited to 5 pages).
- An essay (not to exceed 1500 words) that addresses the applicant's professional aspirations and their relationship to the central purpose of the fellowship program - arts leadership.
- Samples of writing and/or portfolios of creative and performing activity.
- Three letters of professional reference.
