What
is PRINT Press?
The Print Research Institute
of North Texas (P.R.I.N.T.) is a fine art collaborative press affiliated with the
University of North Texas College of Visual Arts and Design. It was established
in 1993 with a generous donation from Mike and Jo Hart, founders of
Peregrine Press, Dallas 1981-91. Works created with traditional and experimental printmaking techniques by emerging and established artists such as Terry Allen, Helen Altman, Lynda Benglis, Anitra Blayton, Paul Booker, Enrique Chagoya, Sally French, Brian Fridge, Kathy Grove, Edgar Heap of Birds, Sarojini Jha Johnson, Jane Kent, Annette Lawrence, Sharon Louden, Michael Miller, Gladys Nilsson, Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, Jack Pierson, Dan Rizzie, Jim Shaw, James Surls and William T. Wiley have created works at the P.R.I.N.T.
As an invitation-only collaborative press, P.R.I.N.T. invites artists -- many of whom do not traditionally work in print -- to create an editioned work. The master printer in the P.R.I.N.T. Press guides the artist through the process and handles the technical aspects of printmaking. Since 1993, works have been created with the help of master printers Stan Baden, Catherine Chauvin and Mike Hart.
What
is PRINT Press's Mission?
1. Create significant contributions
to contemporary art, as well as contemporary printmaking, while working
with emerging and established artists of national and international
acclaim. By dedicating expertise and facility to research and innovation
in the field of collaborative printmaking, P.R.I.N.T. maintains a centuries-old
tradition, availing artists with the opportunity to produce fine art
in limited edition, using the various printmaking processes and techniques.
2. Educate students in its
fertile environment of exploring and expanding print media. P.R.I.N.T.
maintains a powerful impact on students through apprenticeships, and
artistÊ lectures. Students are exposed to a variety of prominent artists,
and have the benefit of a hands on experience in a professional setting.Ê
In addition, students develop their skills in acquiring knowledge of
following industry standards, such as registration, archiving, curating
and marketing prints.
3. Serve the North Texas
area as a resource for contemporary art, and for the understanding of
prints, by providing the public with: prints for sale; facility tours
and demonstrations; and workshop opportunities. All proceeds are reinvested
to underwrite future projects.
