Jim Shaw
1952 Born in Midland, MI
1974 B.F.A. University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI
1978 M.F.A. California Institute of Arts, Valencia, CA
California-based artist Jim Shaw creates artwork that morphs a pop sensibility with uneasiness, resulting in images that are both arresting and disquieting. Reportedly all of his work is inspired by dreams. Heaven and Hell are both compelling in their melding of the familiar with the disturbing.
One of America's most influential contemporary artists, Jim Shaw has had solo exhibitions at the University Art Museum, University of California at Berkeley, Texas Gallery, TX, Massimo de Carlo, Milan, Italy and Galerie Praz/Delavallade, Paris, France. Group exhibitions that Shaw has appeared in, include TV Generations, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, Video and Dream, Modern Art Museum, NY, Recent Drawings, Whitney Museum of American Art, NY and Kustom Kulture, Laguna Art Museum, Laguna Beach, CA.
