Egyptian Elegance February 5 – May 15, 2009
Preparations are underway to present this exhibition which ties in to the current exhibition at the Dallas Museum of Art entitled: ” Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharoahs which runs through May 17. Drawn from the twentieth century holdings of the Texas Fashion Collection in the UNT College of Visual Arts and Design, this exhibition will feature 18 to 20 dramatic evening gowns inspired by ancient garments of Egypt such as the kalasiris (sheath dress), tunic or caftan. Twentieth century designers such as Ralph Rucci, Oscar de la Renta, Mary McFadden, and Giorgio di ‘Sant Angelo often returned to the well of inspiration provided by ancient dress. Viewers will be able to compare evening dress styles from the 1930s to the present with Egyptian designs and motifs.
