Welcome to the North Texas Institute for Educators on
the Visual Arts
NTIEVA's mission is to conduct research and
staff development in the implementation of discipline-based
art education (DBAE). DBAE is a comprehensive approach to
learning in art that centers instruction on works of art and
derives content from four foundational art disciplines that
contribute to the creation, understanding and appreciation
of art: art production, art history, art criticism and aesthetics.
NTIEVA provides extensive training in the theory and implementation
of discipline-based art education for school district teams
comprised of art specialists, art supervisors, classroom teachers,
principals, superintendents and school board members, as well
as for museum educators and docents. Consortium members of
NTIEVA include the Amon Carter Museum, the Dallas Museum of
Art, the Kimbell Art Museum, the Meadows Museum, the Modern
Art Museum of Fort Worth, the University of North Texas, the
Greater Denton Arts Council, the Texas Commission on the Arts,
and the independent school districts of Denton, Fort Worth,
Hurst-Euless-Bedford, Pilot Point, and Plano.
